[this is good]
I'm pained to admit I did PR for the coal industry for a year, before my conscience drove me screaming from the job. It was an eye opener to be working on the other side of environmentalism, harsh and depressing. But it did teach me how they think, what they believe, and how to communicate using their language.

It makes me feel a little better to see that I'm already doing most of the list of 10 simple things to help. Living in Calgary, surrounded by oil money and citizens who refused to let the municipal government use their tax money to implement a recycling pickup program, it's easy to lose hope.
Everything we can do will help. And, if you can't find a likeminded group in your physical surroundings, it's good to hang out with one anywhere you can - finding, for example, the approriate cyber community, is a great help because it is easy to feel you are all on your own and that the situation is hopeless. But there's a silken net of connections around the globe - and attitudes that were considered goofy-hippy years ago are becoming more mainstream. Remember the Margaret Mead quotation, which goes something like 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has'.
I will need to see it soon, I think they play it down the street from my place.
