Rain and delays set for weekend
Busy roads, disruption on the railways and wet and cold weather for some are predicted for the Bank Holiday weekend.
Update, Sunday morning - they changed their plans - and just as well - not a day to be under canvas with children:
Sunday 25 May WEATHER WATCH A spell of rain is expected to affect parts of England and Wales during Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. The heaviest and most persistent rain will be in southern counties of England. Some places may get as much as 70mm of rain. The rain will be accompanied by a strong and cold northeasterly wind
My son started me on this blogging lark, although he's
been rather quiet of late. Now his daughter, my eldest granddaughter,
Freja, age 11, is a blogger (but I'm not putting a link to that). But
we're up and running on something else now - I set up a private family Ning
network (like a mini-Facebook) so we can blog, put up photos etc etc
and my dad, my son and Freja are all members, so the family age span is
11 up to a few days off 88. Waiting for other family members to join
now, although some of them are a bit internet-phobic.
The hall is piled with bags and boxes. Am I moving permanently? You'd think so. No, it's clothing (for all weathers from sun to the snow that is forecast for this weekend), walking boots and wellies, bedding, human food, bird food, camera, soon to be followed by 'puter - all for a week at the lodge. I'm driving across to Cumbria this afternoon, to be joined tomorrow evening by my daughter and these gorgeous granddaughters (without guinea pigs, I assume)
Show us something cheerful.
Submitted by Alex.:Lucy and Isabel are cheerful. I can't vouch for the guinea pigs, Ruby and Nibbles, though,
My son Simon and his nephew, my grandson Jack, taken on our visit on Saturday:
....thanks to the amazing Leopard's Time Machine, but, also thanks to lovely Simon (who gave me the below as part of my Christmas present along with the wonderful IT Crowd), I'm now uploading to the blogging universe using MarsEdit. So I have plenty to smile about.
Today I'm grateful
- that Peter's surgery is over and, though his face is swelling and underneath his eye is turning black, he doesn't feel as bad as I thought he might. He doesn't seem to be in much pain - let's hope he gets a good night sleep!
- that I finished writing the wedding ceremony this evening. Hope T... and L.... are going to like it.
- that S.., who was so difficult and unpleasant to us, is no longer working here, that the ensuing saga is over, and that we have L... , who is such a delight, not to mention so much fun, in her place.
- it's time to start a new book, and I have so many to choose from, and four more on the way in the post - Amazon have sent three of them, they've just informed me. Haven't decided what I'm going to choose to take to bed tonight but think it's going to be something not too challenging....hmmm.
- that I'm going to be seeing my children, two grandchildren and the new baby guinea pigs next week.
Peter has just had two Basal cell carcinomas removed from his face this morning. He was an hour in surgery. He's going to be sore when the anaesthetic wears off!
This is an excellent site with lots of advice as to how to protect your skin in the sun.
Packing again after the washing, ironing and email turnaround - I'm off to Cumbria soon. Not to stay in the lodge, as Dharmavidya and Prasada are there for the week (I'll spend tomorrow with them) but to stay with my sister Kathy and brother-in-law Dougal at Caudale Beck. I'll be seeing my sister Janet and my Mum, too, as they are staying nearby. Taking the camera, of course.
Taking waterproofs and wellies, too, of course - they might be needed
in Cumbria at any time of year but how much more so at the moment, with
the extreme weather the UK has been experiencing recently, with more on its way. Hoping my Amida Sheffield buddies aren't awash.
