I must say I have to deal with quite a bit of this 'illness dukkha'. I'm down with another gastric flu virus. Now that the sickness and splitting headache phase has passed I'm at the wobbly and weak stage - ha, just an increase of my usual state! It's at times like these that I really appreciate this BlackBerry for emailing - I've had a report of the last year to write for the Amida Trustees meeting tomorrow, my iPod, the Powerbook (although the wifi signal doesn't reach my bedroom, up here in 'the gods', I can watch DVDs) - technology rocks - and I'm so grateful for all the Buddhist magazines and a pile of Saga mags I brought back from my Dad's - just right for my attention span. Glad, too, that we listened to so much k.d. lang last weekend, so that, at my sickest, I had her singing in my head.

..... because it looks as though Hillary will go to any lengths - nuclear, rewriting the rules, virulent criticism, and those latter two are against her 'own side'.
Wondering how the voting will go today and hoping against hope that sinking to the depths won't win the day...indeed, win the race. Is the brutal reality that, in order to be electable, you have to become the sort of person I couldn't bring myself to vote for? (This is theoretical in this instance, for me, in that I'm not American.) I've been so enthused by the vision of hope and freshness that Barack Obama seems to hold out...will that be enough? Or am I just being naïve?

I'm just settling down in bed with Marina Lewycka's 'Two Caravans'. I loved her 'A. Short History of Tractors in Ukraine' and I'm in the mood for something amusing after a busy week and an especially intense couple of days - nothing like a breath of fresh air for the brain.

......and gazing into the tract of woodland behind the lodge, I've seen a large deer.....I think he was a Red stag. Very exciting.

I quite agree with a Western doctor who recently told me that those people who often use the words I, my, and me are at a greater risk of having a heart attack. When, because of self-centeredness, your view is narrowed to yourself, even a small problem will seem unbearable.

Leopard installed this afternoon (for which thanks to my son Simon) and Time Machine is backing up everything onto a 500 GB external hard drive - 53.76 of 83.76 GB so far.
What a great idea. Apples are magic.

The badgers came, I saw a deer through the trees, it snowed this morning and covered the fell tops. I ventured out once to fill the bird feeders. No matter that the snow turned to heavy rain which is drumming on the roof, that it turned dark mid-afternoon and that the body is still tired and uncomfortable. There's a sense of well-being.
