What are you most looking forward to this weekend?
Plenty of fresh Cumbrian air and new perspectives
What are 10 things you've done that other people probably haven't?
Submitted by Janette.
- I lived on a boat - a Victorian yacht - for seven years, off an island (Mersea) off the North East Essex coast.
- I raced boats of all sizes from 14' traditional wooden to 34' state of the art racing yachts as a member of West Mersea Yacht Club.
- When I was 9 years old I started going to jazz concerts and saw Dave Brubeck, the M.J.Q. and Ella Fitzgerald - oh, and I saw the Beatles some years later, but couldn't hear them as everyone was screaming so loudly.
- I was married to a member of Fleetwood Mac and watched them perform their first gig at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival in 1967.
- I was at Cream's first gig, sitting five feet away from Eric Clapton, and their second when Jimmy Hendrix jammed with them - the first time he played in the U.K.
- I attended Harold Wilson's farewell party at 10 Downing Street when he resigned as Prime Minister.
- I am a Pureland Buddhist Minister and on the Chaplaincy team at two universities.
- As such, I had my head shaved for 7 1/2 years - I've now allowed it to grow a whole 2 " (much more comfortable in the cold weather - less headaches!)
- I've been on a 4-seater plane that flew inside the Grand Canyon.
- I've been hang-gliding on Dartmoor - quite an accomplishment for someone with such vertigo.
Have you ever backed out on doing something you promised you'd do? Did you have a good reason for going back on your word?
Submitted by enSue.An ever present possibility - with a variable and chronic health condition every arrangement I make is provisional. This can often look flakey... I don't like this but that's how it goes. So I'd say, yes, good reason. And others in the same boat will probably agree that we often push ourselves and turn up (not liking to let others down) when we are very unwise to do so and end up paying the price,
Did you shop for great deals on Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Or did you observe Buy Nothing Day?
No shopping for great deals - yes, I observed 'Buy Nothing Day' (though husband bought the Saturday newspapers)
Do you consider yourself a patriotic person? Why or why not?
No. I'm a citizen of the world. So is everyone else. We need to be able to live together, valuing everyone equally. Countries are human inventions and an outdated concept. As Dharmavidya says, 'birds don't know France'.
How often are you wrong? Do you find it difficult to admit it when you are?
Submitted by emily ann.On a good day - about 50% of the time ;-)
I'm so much better at admitting it now and dealing with any shame that presents. The universe doesn't end. I don't disappear into a black hole. I will usually own up when I need to (and often when I don't), even if it takes me a little time to talk myself out of my previous conditioning. Being a Pureland Buddhist and therefore accepting that I, like everyone else, am a 'foolish being of blind passion' ie a fully human being with all the behavioural traits that implies, helps no end. No-one is looking for perfection or is perfect themselves. Phew - that's a relief!
How many TVs do you have in your house?
One that works - in the drawing room
One that doesn't work - in a corner of the morning room
And a small one that does work - at the lodge in Cumbria
What kind of camera(s) do you own?
Nikon F60, which I haven't been using too much
Sony Cybershot DSC-P200, which I carry round all the time.
But wanted to upgrade to DSLR (Thanks for the advice I was given, chaps). I continued agonising for several weeks between the Nikon D40 and D80. But this weekend I discovered that there were so few lenses that would work with the D40 that I went out this morning and bought a

Nikon D80 (shaking with excitement). Although it will be better to eventually buy more DSLR lenses to augment the AFS-DX 18-70 I bought it with, I can also use all the Nikon AS lenses etc I already have. Now I'd better learn how to use it - and take some decent photos.
