What are you most looking forward to this weekend?
Plenty of fresh Cumbrian air and new perspectives
The hall is piled with bags and boxes. Am I moving permanently? You'd think so. No, it's clothing (for all weathers from sun to the snow that is forecast for this weekend), walking boots and wellies, bedding, human food, bird food, camera, soon to be followed by 'puter - all for a week at the lodge. I'm driving across to Cumbria this afternoon, to be joined tomorrow evening by my daughter and these gorgeous granddaughters (without guinea pigs, I assume)
We are about to drive off to the lodge in Cumbria for the weekend - and I'm going to drive the first bit to see if I can manage. I haven't driven, apart from down the road to the doctor's, for the last two months. It's a 2 2/3 hour journey - let's see how much I manage.
All our stuff is in the hall, ready to put in the car. I'm taking this book, which arrived from Amazon yesterday (how do the housebound manage without Amazon?) - very pleased with the look of it. It's about Morita Therapy and I'll post more when I get going on it.
Tomorrow the Bodhi Retreat starts in Narborough. The plan was to drive down today. But it became more and more obvious during the past three days that I am fatigued to the point of feeling drunk and incoherent. Not safe behind the wheel. Too tired to think of public transport. Sometimes it's hard to give in to the demands of the body, which I over-ride whenever I can. Most of the time. But this fatigue has been growing and growing for the last few weeks and won't be ignored unless I want a total crash and months of bed-rest. So I'm not going to the retreat and feel sad to be missing the event and my friends. Hard to contact them and tell them. Battling with my own silly feelings of letting people down. As I've already cancelled all meetings for the next week I'll take the time for rest and personal retreat. Tonight P is pouring me into the car and I'll be looking at the Cumbrian hills again. Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast - maybe we will get snow this time.
It may have been a Bank Holiday here, but I've spent it - and nearly all the preceding weekend - getting the CD distribution ready to send out. We record Dharmavidya's
Dharma talks. Originally on tape but these days digitally. I then make
masters, load them into iTunes, and make copies. Then I design and
print CD covers and I type up the notes I made while Dharmavidya was
talking - or I listen to the CD if I wasn't there at the time, write
them up longhand, type them and print copies. Next, putting CDs and
covers into cases, then addressing and stuffing padded envelopes.
Packages that are going abroad have to have Airmail stickers and
Customs declarations and they all have my address labels on the back.
Tomorrow morning it's off to the Post Office and they'll be on their
way.... all round the UK, to mainland US and Hawaii, Africa, India,
Australia, France, Belgium, mostly to people I know in person and some
by e-mail.
I'm sending out two CDs this time - his talk and the subsequent discussion from the 4th Living Buddhism Conference and the first of ten talks he gave on the Larger Pureland Sutra during July at Amida France.
I missed the latter, not getting to France this summer due to Peter's
accident in Kephalonia in June, so I loved listening to this first talk
last night.
